The DeCoInter Alternative Marine Fuels Factsheets has been developed to support port authorities and maritime stakeholders in understanding the opportunities, infrastructure requirements and regulatory framework associated with alternative marine fuels and shore-side electricity. The factsheets provide an overview of key technical considerations, applicable legislation, safety standards, fuel production pathways and regional infrastructure developments relevant to the South Baltic region.
The information presented is based on official legislation, international regulations and recognised technical guidance available at the time of publication. Primary sources include the International Maritime Organization (IMO), European Union legislation (including FuelEU Maritime and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR)), the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), the DNV Alternative Fuels Insight Platform, guidance and rules from leading IACS classification societies (including DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas and RINA), relevant ISO and IEC standards, as well as publicly available information from European port authorities, national energy agencies and recognised maritime industry organisations.
